  • Day 3 @ New Orleans

My final day in New orleans was pretty much what normal tourist woulds do, walking around, eating and taking pictures. So, I decided to just wake up without aid from my alarm, possibly the best part when it comes to traveling. I hate maps and doing research on where and what we should eat, so Jo is always the tour guide when it comes to traveling. Once we stepped out of our hotel, I was shocked when I saw the streets…

    After

    and Before..

We took a little walk along Bourbon Street, it felt totally different. No alcohol, no crowds and no beads!?!

Finally I get to take nice shot without pushing anyone out of my way.

Popeye’s again??? Yea yea, I love fast food, I love fried chicken so? wtf …

After lunch, we took a short walk around Canal Street…

Then we heard a very cute melody and we decided to follow it only to find this steamboat.

Our Tourist-y looking picture of the day.

Then we went into the French Market to get some snacks.

We found this coffee stand and it was overloaded with people.

When u see a long line outside a restaurant, you know you’re at the right place *wink*

As usual, I checked my Facebook and updated my Twitter while waiting.

After 15 mins, we finally got our beignets.

” Shake it like a Polaroid picture!”

They are pastries covered with loads of powdered sugar, kinda like French doughnuts. *thumbs up*

    Yummy

    We continued walking….

    A square crowded with people.

Since we had nothing to do, we took a seat and spent the rest of our time watching a performance by a group of dancers.

The performance was entertaining plus the weather was sunny, everything was prefect!

Took picture at this Magic Castle lookalike building before heading back to our hotel.

Another tourist lookalike picture with both of us in it.

Then we headed back to our Hotel by taking this cute tramp.

One of my favorite pictures in new Orleans.

It was time to leave New Orleans and say Hi to a sunny warm place, Miami.

We passed by the New Orleans Saints’ football stadium on the way to the airport. They were celebrating their Super Bowl win the week before Mardi Gras started, so it was a total of 3 weeks of alcohol and celebrations to be exact.

Yup, I hand carried all the beads all the way from New Orleans – Miami then back to Kzoo. Trust me, they were really really heavy.

Will continue to blog about my Miami trip soon, so stay tuned…

p/s: Sorry for this short post, Im in a hurry =P

  • Mardi Gras 2010

The main reason we travelled to New Orleans was attend a big event called Mardi Gras. This event is all about drinking, flashing your boobies and getting wasted. We woke up kinda late in the day because we watched the morning parade inside our hotel room and decided to catch the afternoon parade instead. Surprisingly, we weren’t too late for the morning parade even though we left our hotel at around noon. We got there just as the parade was passing. Prefect timing huh!

    Warning : Pictures overload!!

Instead of trying to describe, I will just post some interesting pictures with captions.

I double layered my jacket to keep myself warm cause I know I will have to be outdoors throughout the day

The first thing that I saw when I first stepped onto Bourbon Street was the crowd. It was so crowded and the place smelt like alcohol.

Below are pictures of people dressed up in different costumes. Yupe, people dress up during Mardi Gras. Colors preferred are gold, green and purple. I regretted not bringing my Queen of hearts costume, damnit!

We walked passed this little doggy. This pitiful little dog has been sitting there for more than 2 hours without moving a muscle. He just sat there and attracted people to take pictures to earn money from them.

We had Popeye for brunch. They have the best fried chicken ever! It tasted so different from my local area even though it’s the same chain.

While Jo was cleaning up our mess, I found an empty spot for a prefect view of the parade.

All the locals dressed up for the day.

Here comes the King of Mardi Gras 2010. Long live the king!

Shout out loud when you see someone throwing beads from the parade because they might just throw you a big bag of beads like what I got.

besides throwing out beads, they threw out treats…

    and flowers too.

After 2 hours of standing and shouting, we decided to walk around the French Quarter instead. For your information, there were parades all day long.

On the way to Bourbon Street, we saw a lot of people selling beads on shopping carts.

    Then we saw this…

This is what happens when there is a naked girl dancing behind a glass window…

Then we walked into the Gay section of the street and  it’s totally different. Instead of showing boobs they showed their dicks. Im dead serious! I saw a few of them =(

Took picture of this girl asking for beads from the guy on the balcony. She was asked to show her boobies but she refused to do so….too bad no beads for you girl.

Look at his super huge beads!

At the end of the day, I got more beads than I thought I would.

It was time for dinner and I had no idea why I was craving for pizza. Pizza is always my last choice when it comes to fast food.

We went to this pizza restaurant which was just right in front of our hotel. I would eat anything that was close to our hotel because it was freaking cold!

They printed this cup just for Mardi Gras. We were allowed to bring it home with us too =D

We had a BBQ chicken with extra onion.

After dinner, we headed back to our hotel to get some rest and went back out to the street to check out how they close down the whole street at 12am.

I covered up my self with Jo’s jacket and scarf. Dont judge me, it was really cold !

Went to the store to get ourselves some drinks. You want beer?? I GIVE YOU BEER! It was 1 buck for a can!

and I saw this interesting guy carrying his Gucci bagpack with a Gucci price tag attached to it. No offense but it made me think that he got it from Petaling Street for a moment. Just so you know an authentic product doesn’t have a price tag attached to it.

All the girls were so crazy about getting beads from all the guys on the balconies.

The street was so crowded I could hardly breath while I was walking down the street. It was intense!

In the end we didn’t get to watch them clean up the street but instead I saw a few people peeing on the street, I know it was really disgusting!

Here is a video of Girls Gone Wild at Mardi Gras and Cupid Shuffle on the street, enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  • Day 1 in New Orleans

I have finally decided to blog about my trip. There was one point where I felt too lazy to blog, but I also want to make sure I keep my promise.

So here I am, blogging about my trip to New Orleans.

I have to learned to pack wisely, I always over pack stuff. This time I checked in a big luggage and 2 carry ons.

Hi, New Orleans. So Day One was basically just spending time in the airport, in the flight and checking- in and settling down. The first thing I did as we landed in New Orleans, I took out my phone and checked the weather. Surprisingly, it was quite cold around, 8-10 Celsius during the day. I didn’t bring any winter coats, not even a jacket that could keep me warm. Well, at least it was sunny.

I was quite satisfied with my hotel room and service. It wasn’t far away from everything, in fact it was right in the heart of the French Quarter.

After changing into something warm, we headed down to the main party street. It was already full of people walking around with drinks in their hands.

Beads were all over the place when we got there.

I was freezing while walking down the street, the wind was quite strong and chilly.

We headed to the French Market to have lunch.

After an hour of waiting, our food was finally here. Their famous fried chicken and gumbo. It was the best fried chicken I have ever had, juicy and crispy. Southern people love fried food, thats why they have the best fried chicken =D

After lunch, we went to take a walk around the market.

They were selling all kinds of mask, they weren’t cheap. The cheapest one was around 90 usd, thought I could get one as souvenir.

Then we headed back to Bourbon street for more beads!

Some bar decorate their balcony to attract more people.

All the balconies were full of people, and they were those who were giving out free beads!

You can try to asking for beads by doing what I’m doing in this picture, or you can do something more fun… such as showing your tits. If you’re asking for beads from guys, they will normally ask you to show them ur boobs. If you’re too shy to do so you can try asking for beads from ladies. I’m talking about aunties here not girls because girls will normally ask you to flash too.

It took me one whole day to learn how to catch a strand of beads without hurting my thumb.

After 20 minutes of beads hunting.

    40 minutes…

The end of the day… *proud*

Next time if you’re planning to go over to New Orleans for Mardi gras, make sure you learn how to hold a girl up on your shoulders or sit on the shoulders of your man for more BEADS beforehand.

We ended the day watching the parade, and catching beads, and freezing ourselves.

  • Hey guys, so sorry for lack of updates. I was on vacation last week…guess where was I???

*hint hint*  (if you read my new year resolutions entry you should probably know)

Yup! I was in New Orleans to celebrated Mardi Gras 2010 and Miami to completed my places-to-go-before-going-back-for-good list.

I had lots of fun, I always love traveling with my dahlink.

I’m actually uploading all the pictures into my laptop and I will definitely  blog about my trip soon.

    so …stay tuned.

  • Yenni’s 21st birthday

Thank god, I have finally finished all my Mid term exams. I don’t feel like commenting on my mid terms I know you understand that. So lets get back to the original topic of this post.

Few weeks ago we went to Chicago to celebrated Yenni’s 21st! Yupe, she is finally 21st!!! We have been waiting this day to come because we can finally hang out at bars after her 21st!

Yupe, you are only legally allowed into bars or to consume alcohol in The States if you’re 21 or above.

Jon planned out her birthday and invited everyone to head over to Chicago to stay 1 nite and have a fancy dinner. We went to Chicago on Friday afternoon right after everyone was done with their classes and work. There was only 5 of us who went to Chicago because the rest of our friends were busy with their school work and midterms. We arrived in Chicago at around 7pm and the first destination was to rush over to the cake shop to pick up Yenni’s birthday cake. Then we went to check in to our hotel room, changed and got ready for Yenni’s birthday dinner.

Our dinner reservation was at 9.30pm. The restaurant that Jon picked was Blackbird.

I love the interior of the restaurant it was very modern and cozy. The only thing I hated about the restaurant was the yellow lighting, it made all my pictures to turn out to be very yellow. I spent half the afternoon figuring out how to edit it to look more natural, but I failed.

They provided bag holders for their customers.

I love the taste of their butter with herbs but I’m not a big fan for their bread, it’s too hard.

I had NV Bugey Cerdon Sparkling Rose. I love the taste of it, its very bubbly and sweet =)

Enjoying my drink. I finished it right before the appetizer….

My daughter of the day, Bega Teoh Looi/Siow

Finally, a picture with our birthday girl.

    Appetizer from the restuarant.

    Appetizer :

Lentil crusted louisiana frog legs with chanterelles, local crabapples and medjool dates

Blue hill bay bouchot mussel soup with whitefish, saffron, garlic and basil

    Main Course:

Slagel Family Farms ‘fried’ chicken with black mission figs, treviso and smoked potato salad

Roasted squab with braised lobster mushrooms, forbidden black rice and plums

Braised rack of lamb with Nichols Farm heirloom tomatoes, melrose peppers, red pepper panisse, dandelion greens and pita

Grilled iberico pork collar with fresh black beans, cipollini onions, honeydew melon, poblano pepper and brioche

    The girls.

While we were waiting for the cake.

    Yup, still waiting…

    Yenni’s 21st Birthday cake.

The sweet couple and the beautiful cake =)

The most important part of the birthday, hope your wishes come true.

They modeled this cute little fondant girl according to Yenni’s picture.

Personally I think they look alike besides the blue eyes they put on little Yenni.

I just can’t wait to eat the cake haha

Brought the cake back to our hotel room and continued to take pictures with it.

With all the cute details, it’s worth paying more =)

We took a group pic with the birthday girl, before everyone went to bed.

We took a normal one and a goofy one =) Love it!

    A simple celebration, a gathering of friends;
here is wishing you great happiness, a joy that never ends.
    Happy Happy 21st Birthday!
